The Black Star Line sound system was born in the winter of 1998, from a group of friends who started buying some Jamaican 7-inch singles and renting speakers for their first countryside parties. Working more seriously on the project, they bought two amplified speakers, for a total power of 1000 watt; so many people came to the parties to have fun. Guys were so enthusiastic that they built with their own hands 3 scoop binz for the bass line. By the time some members left the group, growing up and being more and more busy. Nonetheless in 2004 Marco took the project in his hands, to pursue and improve it. The rest of the team made its own contribution, leaving for the project the sound system they had built and lots of records, since the most important thing for all was to keep BLACK STAR LINE Sound System project alive. This musical project aimed to revive the pure meaning of Reggae music inspired by Jah’s mystical vibration; nobody wanted so much effort put on the dream to vanish. So, the project lived trough the splitting of the group (Jah Works haffi done!), even in such a bad environment, as Salento was, where Roots and Dub music and big sound system had no spaces. In 2005 the new sound system was released, fully hand-built, following old Jamaican and British precepts, to down Babylon barriers. The sound got new friends and enjoyed the constant support of all Vaste Far-I family. The new sound conception is based on Rastafarai faith and devotion, conceived as source of inspiration and guide for the future work which has been much more Europe oriented. The group started focusing on British Roots and Dubs music, getting inspired by the mighty Aba Shanti I e Jah Shaka, King Shiloh, Channel One, Iration Steppas, Ras Muffet & Migthy Tabot sound,Robert tribulation & Word Sound and Power sound e King Earthquake,Jah Tubbys, or old musicians and producers such as Augustus Pablo, King Tubby, Niney the Observer, Lee Perry and new ones such as Russ d Disciples, Steve Vibronics, Blakamix, Bush Chemist, Mafia and Fluxy, Sly and Robbie, Gussie P and so on. The sound system is finally perceived as an art, a physical experience, where music spirituality reminds esoteric and mystical sounds solemnity. A sound system giving a “positive vibration”, through the buss inspiring thoughts, feelings, dreams and freedom wishes, not just entertainment, but soul and mind cares. This is BLACK STAR LINE SOUND SYSTEM: Roots and Culture. Black Star Line also collaborate with Salento Roots, which has been working for years in order to promote reggae culture, organising big international events with guests like Disciples, Jonah Dan, Manasseh, Brother Culture, Aba Shanti I , Abassi Hi-Power & Neil Perch from Zion Train, King Shiloh outta Amsterdam, Kanga Roots outta Gemany, the Italian style of King David Warrior outta Aosta, Cap Midnight, Dread Movement and more.
